Why register?
There are many pieces of this site you can use without registering. But if you want to participate in forums, upload photos to your profile gallery, make connections to other users, and create a page of your favorite hikes (or wish list of hikes you want to do), then you'll have to register. But don't worry we won't sell your info & spam you.
How to link to an image in comments?
So you have an image (say a photo of the hike) on your hard drive, and you want to use it in a comment. The image file must be on the Web. It can be on a personal website, in your profile gallery, or on a 3rd party site like snapfish/shutterfly/flikr/photobucket/etc. Make note of the URL (web address) of the uploaded image file (right clink ... choose properties ... it will look like this "http://www.domain.com/category/picture.jpg"). Now when you're in the comments section choose the image icon and you'll get <img> </img> tags. Put the web address of the image file in between the img tags.

About this site.
We started this site in 2006 as a way to find more hikes in LA. As we took trips around California (Big Sur, Yosemite), we added more hikes! Being a CA native, I was very eager to show off the bountiful hiking opportunities even in dense urban areas.
